It seems that people get drawn into the misconception that the less meals that they eat then the more weight that they will lose. This is not always the truth (unless you are doing an intermittent fasting diet, which we will touch on in another post).
Skipping meals can cause your metabolism to slow down, which in turn can cause weight gain and/or make it harder for you to lose weight. When you skip meals, your body goes into survival mode. Survivor mode is when your body slows down your metabolism and will look to conserve and store fat, while looking for other options to burn as energy, namely muscle. The whole idea of weight loss is to lose the fat and try to retain the muscle that is necessary for your body to function.
Things that can happen when you skip meals:

During my journey on the 120 Healthy Living Exchange I have lost 2 ½ inches off of my stomach area, while not losing any weight. Yes, I have not lost any weight, but that was not my goal. My goal was to lose some of the fat in my stomach area while putting on muscle in other areas. Only 6 weeks left and I’m well on my way to reaching my goal, then we will have our before and after pictures in a post. During the time of my journey so far, I have been eating my regular meals with a morning and afternoon healthy snack (while eating fast food or desserts once in a while). For my fitness, I have been lifting weights 3 to 4 times a week and going for a half hour walk 5 days a week (so not a lot of time spent exercising).
It takes 4 weeks for you to see your body changing
It takes 8 weeks for your friends and family
It takes 12 weeks for the rest of the world.
Never give up, your body will thank you.
