What do our communities have to do with a Healthy Lifestyle?
Our Communities, cities, towns, neighborhoods all have resources that we can take part in for FREE or a small charge. The bonus of utilizing these programs is you can meet like-minded people in your own community.
There are parks that hold yoga classes, or walking groups.
Heck it doesn’t even have to be exercise based at all! Maybe you want to learn how to knit or check out a book club and meet new people.
This applies even if you have children. Your local library or church offer so many wonderful programs that you can access for free or minimal charge.
Some community hospitals even have nutrition classes that you can participate in to help get your needs met.
One of the local groups in our area has a community kitchen. They take a group of people (adults) and they find healthy, cost effective recipes. They decide on 4-5 of the recipes. Go get the groceries and spend a day preparing the meals. Everyone goes home with 4-5 healthy meals that THEY prepared at the end of the day for their families! This particular program is funded by a non-profit group and costs the participants nothing.
If you’re community doesn’t offer anything like this, start one of your own! Contact a community group or church (they usually have kitchens) ask for funding from somewhere, there are all kinds of service clubs or businesses that may take this on. Ask a local nutritionist if they would be willing to volunteer their time to help pick the recipes? If you have to, charge a small amount to cover the costs of food. The one in our community is funded by donations from a local volunteer service group and corporate sponsorship.
The same applies for an activity group. Start a walking group in your area! It’s easy, set a time and place and start a Facebook page. Share that page EVERYWHERE! Get your local community to put up some easily made posters, or announce it at their meeting or event.
Help someone else make healthy lifestyle exchanges. It makes the heart smile to help our fellow friends and neighbors.
